Student Organizations

Salem International University prides itself in offering students more than just a great academic experience.  Beyond just the experiences available in the classroom, students have the opportunity to get involved and engaged in the various student organizations available to ALL students.  Nearly one fourth of our student body participates in at least one student organization.

The organizations available at Salem International University include:

Alpha Phi Omega Alpha Phi Omega is a national coeducational service organization founded on the principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service. It provides its members the opportunity to develop leadership skills as they volunteer on their campus, in their community, to the nation, and to the organization. With more than 400,000 members on over 375 campuses, Alpha Phi Omega continues to provide more service on more campuses than any other collegiate service organization.

The SIU chapter helps provide service opportunities for the local, regional, national and international communities. Ouronground and distance learners work together to plan service projects and mission opportunities that will help impact  others and make a difference!

Biology ClubBiology Club helps students become more active in the science community at Salem International University. The skills gained in the club will create volunteer opportunities and teach lessons to students in a way that the classroom may not.

Through the Biology Club, there are many different activities offered throughout the semester. Our on ground and distance learners work together to learn more about career opportunities available in science and how the knowledge of the principles of biology can be used to impact the world at large.

Black Student UnionDiversity is a cornerstone of the Tiger Way! The Black Student Union is an opportunity to foster a fun and safe environment that engages our students in discussion on issues affecting our diverse population and the at large communities. We hope to educate our members then challenge them to take action.

Our on ground and distance learners work together to lead by example in their communities and push students to be better than their best. We hope to show past generations that we will take charge of our future, dismantle the negative stereotypes, build and secure our sense of community, and influence the world.

Broadcasting Club Interested in radio and internet broadcasting? If so, the Broadcasting club is the club for you! You’ll work with the Sports Information Director to help broadcast and livestream most of our sporting events to the national audience.

In addition, our on ground and distance learners help work together to develop new opportunities to share the talents of our athletes and other students on campus. Livestream opportunities exist beyond athletics. The members of the broadcasting club are always thinking about new ways of marketing our existing broadcasts and new activities to broadcast to the thousands of followers.

Campus Activities Board The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is a student-run organization whose primary function is to plan and facilitate cultural, social, recreational, and educational events at Salem International University. CAB is responsive to student interest, with a primary goal of fostering campus community and unity throughout SIU.

CAB, while primarily service our on ground students, pays particular attention to how we can use our resources to provide our distance learners with co-curricular activities and services help enhance their college experience.

Criminal Justice ClubThe Criminal Justice Club is composed of students with the collective interest in various criminal justice agencies. The Club exists to try to give these students better insight into these career paths and give students the ability to make connections with each other and outside agencies to commence with upon graduation.

Our on ground and distance learners work together to find local, regional, and national opportunities to compete with other CJ students from other colleges and universities.

International Student Organization (ISO) ISO is the largest and most valuable association of international students currently studying in the USA. As a leader, ISO always stands at the service of international students who are currently studying in the USA. Founded in 1958, ISO strives to address the needs of international students. The Salem chapter’s objective is to ease the life of international students while away from their home country. This objective is fulfilled by providing international students with information which might help them get through their educational experience in easier and more affordable ways.

ISO strives to assist foreign students attending institutions of higher learning in the USA who may not be familiar with the language, traditions, customs, laws and other non-academic aspects of their life. Our on ground and distance learners work together to create a community for international students that will allow students to have the best experience during their studies in the US.

National Society of Leadership and SuccessThe Society is the nation's largest leadership honor society. Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction. With 552 chapters, the Society currently has 671,947 members nationwide. In addition to honorable distinction, the Society provides a step-by- step program for members to build their leadership skills through participation at their campus or online.

Upon completion of the program, members receive their leadership certificate and take their place among the top student leaders at their campus and across the country. Members are able to list their affiliation on all statements of personal accomplishment, including their resume.

The Salem chapter consists of over 150 students, and is a place where on ground and distance learners get together to discuss important topics and share thoughts about key principles of leadership. The NSLS also provides students leadership opportunities in their communities to help take the knowledge they gain and put it into practice.

Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) SAAC provides our student athletes leadership opportunities to develop activities, service projects, and to bring our communities together. SAAC works closely with student Life to co-sponsor campus tailgates and road trips for our students and local communities to support our student athletes.

SAAC is primarily an on ground organization, however, we welcome our distance learners to help us support and market Salem athletics in their respective communities.

Student Government Association The Student Government Association at Salem International University represents the opinions, ideas and beliefs of the undergraduate student body. SGA provides our on ground and distance learners a voice to make their learning experience better.

Leadership positions are available for ALL students! SGA works with the campus administration and alumni association to make important improvements which benefit the campus community.

Student Nursing Association With a membership of 60,000 nationwide, the National Student Nurses' Association mentors the professional development of future registered nurses and facilitates their entrance into the profession by providing educational resources, leadership opportunities, and career guidance.

The Salem chapter helps bring our LPN, RN, and RN-BSN students together to develop service projects and educational opportunities to further their knowledge of the medical field. The Student Nursing Association helps our on ground and distance learners network with other nursing professionals to help improve their career opportunities after graduation.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)SIFE is a partnership between business and higher education that is preparing the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders to create a better world for everyone. SIFE offers students the opportunity to solve real world problems through project based learning.

SIFE is the ideal way to sharpen your business skills and apply your classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios. You'll also network with accomplished business professionals at your local chapter, and state and national conferences. Plus, our on ground and distance learners help contribute to the university, and local and national communities with community service projects.

Tiger Techies Tiger Techies was a student driven organization made up of on ground and distance learners in the computer science and informational technology fields. The Tiger Techies help provide essential technology resources for students and staff.

The Tiger Techies keep up with the ever changing technology fields and ensures the CS and IT programs continue to provide students with practical knowledge which keeps our student competitive in the field upon graduation.
