BACHELOR OF SCIENCES IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

 The Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (ASIT and BSIT) provide a foundation for students to successfully apply information technology (IT) theory and principles to address real-world business opportunities and challenges.  IT embraces both computer science and business disciplines with an applied, practical focus.  Under the guidance of the faculty, the student develops knowledge, skills, and abilities in systems analysis, computer programming, database systems, computer networking, information security, Web technologies, and IT project management.  Students also master the principles of management and marketing, business law, operations management, and organization theory.

The BSIT establishes a foundation for students’ continued career growth and life-long learning as an IT professional.  Career opportunities in IT span the full range of computer-related occupations, from technical support specialists to computer operations management.  Successful completion of the BSIT also prepares the student for graduate studies in information technology or in business management.

Graduates will demonstrate the following:
1) Ability to apply information technology theory and principles in addressing global business opportunities and challenges.
2) Knowledge, skills and abilities in the area of information technology with an applied, real-world focus.
3) Knowledge, skills and abilities in business management as applied to IT development and operations.
4) Ability to communicate information in written, oral, and graphic formats.
5) Knowledge, skills, and abilities to enter into advances studies in IT or business.

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology must complete the following general education, international focus and core courses:
General Education:  UNV 100, ENG 101, ENG 102, ENG 200, COM 104, ECO 252, ECO 253, PSY 100, SOC 110, HIS 153, HIS 154, MAT 109, MAT 140, HED 120, BIO 101, PSC 100, BUS 110 and MGT 361.
International Focus:  ENG 203, HIS 125, HIS 126, HIS 210, HIS 305, HIS 215 and ICO 100. 
Core:  IT 150, IT 202, IT 310, IT 320, IT 410, IT 420, IT 445 and IT 499.  
These are supported by the following business courses to create a well-rounded curriculum:
ACC 11, BUS 101, BUS 223, MGT 210, MGT 362, MGT 363 and MKT 231.
