Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Applied Management Specialization
If you’re a working adult who holds an associate of arts or associate of applied science, Salem International University offers you a path to a qualification that can enhance your career prospects—a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Applied Management.

This degree completion program is available online or on campus, and takes as little as two years to complete.
Objectives of This Program
The Applied Management program builds on your associate degree training to prepare you to:
- Communicate, think critically, and solve problems professionally
- Understand principles of accounting and finance and apply them to business operations
- Be aware of marketing principles, including research processes and marketing across cultures
- Prepare business plans for a small business
- Apply strategies for managing people and processes appropriately in business settings

The skills you learn in the BSBA – Applied Management program can help you prepare for management-track careers in a wide variety of industries. You can apply the skills you learn to your current field of work or use them to pursue a new career path.
This program also prepares you to complete a master’s degree later on.
Program of Study
The Applied Management program allows you to transfer 60 credits from your associate’s degree. You must then earn a further 60 credits in order to earn your BSBA. In addition, you will take five courses focused on Applied Management:
- MGT222 Human Resources Management
- MGT362 Operations Management
- MGT424 International Business Management
- MGT450 Special Topics
- BUS410 Business Planning & Small Business Administration
These upper-level courses are taken during the last two years of your degree program.

MGT222 – Human Resources Management (3 Credits)
A study of the principles and techniques of manpower management in organizations; controversies and processes of interaction among labor, management, government, and the public; labor law; and the collective bargaining process. In-depth study of manpower management in organizations. Case studies are used.
MGT362 – Operations Management (3 Credits)
This course will challenge students by providing real-world experience, case studies, and research for for-profit, non-profit, and governmental forms of business, as well as providing actual assistance to same.
MGT424 – International Business Management (3 Credits)
An examination of management problems arising out of the operation of a multinational enterprise. Topics include the installation of operations (capital investment) in foreign countries; alternative forms of entry and organization including licensing, acquisitions and joint ventures. Attention is given to organizational structure, strategic decision making, movement of monies, goods, skills, and technology across national borders; barriers to entry; home-host governments; staffing, corporate ethics and social responsibility; and socio-cultural influences that bear on the management of the multinational enterprise.
BUS410 – Business Planning/Small Business Administration (3 Credits)
An applied course designed to simulate the experiences of conceiving, planning, financing, maintaining, and managing a new business. The major project involves preparing, refining, and presenting a business plan for a potential new venture.
MGT450 – Special Topics (3 Credits)
This course focuses on timely issues in management, including organizational theory, global challenges, ethical and legal issues, leadership, human resources, and so forth. This course may be repeated for credit with the approval of the academic advisor.
Overview of Admission Requirements
To apply to our Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Applied Management program, you must be a graduate of an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science program from an accredited college or community college.
