Welcome to the Salem International University New Athletic Training Website.  From this site you can access information about the ATC Staff and Team Physicians.  In addition, you have access to needed documents that all student-athletes must have completed prior to arrival on campus for the Sports Medicine staff.   Further, you will find links to athletic training websites for position statements, current medical research, and up to date information occurring in the profession.

SIU's main athletic training room is located on the ground floor of the T. Edward Davis building.  It contains two Hydro-Work pools, taping stations, a treatment area and three offices.  A secondary athletic training room is located just up the steps off the floor of the gymnasium.  Additional taping and treatment areas are available for visiting teams.

The mission of the Sports Medicine Staff is to maintain the health and safety of all student-athletes by optimizing the physical activity and participation of the athletes.  This objective is met in a collaborative effort through management to prevent injuries, providing aid to emergency medical situations, performing clinical evaluations, and instructing rehabilitative skills necessary to return to sport quickly and safely.

Preventing injury begins with the pre-participation physical exam.  This must be performed yearly (recommend June or July) by a physician who is familiar with you and your family health history.  Print out a copy of the form linked below.  It is important that the full exam is performed by a licensed medical doctor or doctor of osteopathy. 

Additionally, SIU provides a secondary athletic insurance policy that is part or your general SIU fees.  This is an 80/20 policy that has a $100 deductible for each new claim. You and your parents/guardians must complete the Proof of Insurance form linked below.  Please sign it, and bring a copy (front and back) of your primary insurance card with you to campus.  If you do not have primary insurance, this policy becomes your primary insurance.
