SALEM, V.A. - Salem International University's softball team split two games on day one of the 2013 Salem, VA Invitational, losing to Mansfield 5-0 before rebounding against Bluefield State 12-0.
Mansfield's Klobosits kept the Tiger batters on their heels for seven innings in the first game, striking out 14 and not allowing a hit. Brittni Hall stumbled out of the gate for Salem, but calmed down after the first inning in the loss. Hall gave up five runs on nine hits, striking out three in seven innings of work.
In game two, Salem's bat warmed up to the tune of 12 runs on 15 hits as the Tigers droped Bluefield State in 5 Innings.
Lauren Smith, Katie Mangold, and Cady Ficarro all homered in the game. Mangold finished with four RBI's while Smith and Ficarro had three RBI's. Nikki Grambo had two RBI's to round out the Tiger hitting.
Isabel Villalobos struck out two while giving up just three hits in the game to earn the win.
Weather permitting, Salem will play on California (PA) at 1:00 PM tomorrow before taking on Millersville at 3:00 PM. |
