URBANA, O.H. - Kenneth McCornell (Cleveland, OH) registered his third straight game in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as Urbana University 52.5% for the game, including 10-of-19 three-pointers, in a 98-81 decision Thursday evening.
Salem International scored the game's first 11 points, only to see the Blue Knights go up 25-21 at the 8:23 mark with a 25-10 run behind a 5-for-7 performance from three points land.
Both teams shot well in the first half with Salem shot a 12-for-29 (41.4%) from the field, while Urbana shot 11-for-26 (42.3%). It was, however, the Blue Knights' 7-for-14 from long range that was the difference.
Urbana would eventually extend their lead to 10 in the second period before Salem got back to within two with 7:47 to play. Salem, however, would get no closer as Urbana would go on a three-minute, 15-3 run to seal the game.
Kenneth McCornell led SIU with 18 points. Walter Brock (Brooklyn, NY) scored 12 points on 5-of-8 from the field, and Jeremy Sewell (Saginaw, MI) had 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Salem International will look to close out the 2012-13 season on Saturday against Notre Dame College (OH) at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium. Admission to the game is free and all who enter will receive a free t-shirt. SIU will be honoring the graduating seniors of the men's and women's basketball teams at 3:45 with tipoff scheduled for 4:00 PM.
