SALEM, W.V. - Kenneth McCornell had a season-high 28 points to lead Salem International University to a 93-65 victory over WVU-Tech Saturday afternoon at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
The win moves SIU to 9-9 on the season and avenges a 93-74 exhibition game loss on October 27th.
McCornell, a Senior from Cleveland, OH connected on 10-of-14 shots and was 7-for-8 from long range , leading the Tigers in scoring. Raymar Porter scored 22 points, while Jonathon Roper added 12 to round out what proved to be the most well-rounded offensive game of the 2012-13 season.
WVU-Tech started out with the hot hand, racing out to an 11-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game. However, after Freddy Edouard made two free throws, McCornell came back to two long range shots to give the Tigers their first lead on the contest, 12-11.
After Kornilous Donnell answered for the Golden Bears with a three of his own, McCornell came back to hit two more in the follow three possessions and SIU never looked back.
Salem will take on Urbana University on Wednesday, January 16th. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM.
