GLENVILLE, W.V. - In a game that saw eigth (8) lead changes and five (5) ties in the second half, it was Glenville State University that held the final lead and defeated Salem International University, 89-83, Monday afternoon at Jesse R. Lilly Gym.
Going into the locker room down 12 (44-32), Salem opened the second half on a 16-to-3 run to gain their first lead of the game (48-47) with 16:36 showing on the clock.
The Fighting Tigers (7-8) held its final lead with 3:28 remaining before the Pioneers got a layup from Jamel Morris gave them the lead for good.
Jonathon Roper scored 19 of his season-high 20 points in the second half. The Junior from Murfreesboro, T.N. hit 7-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-3 from long distance. Ray'Mar Porter (Detroit, MI) had 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting, Kenneth McCornell (Cleveland, OH) came away with 15 points, while Juanito Moises (Dominican Republic) added 11 to round out the scoring for SIU.
Salem will look to hault their two-game slide on January 5th when they travel to Kokomo, IN to take on Indiana University - Kokomo. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM.
