Columbus, OH - Junior forward Whitney McCargo (South Boston, VA) scored eight of her game-high 16 points in the second half, but the late SIU rally fell just short and the Lady Tigers fell to Ohio Dominican Tuesday evening, 49-47.
McCargo was 7-of-13, including 2-2 from the free throw line, to lead Salem International University (0-1).
Her two foul shots game SIU the lead with 1:52 showing on the clock before Kacee Hockenberry's layout just outside of a timeout put the lead back into the hands of the home team for good.
The game featured 10 lead changes, six (6) in the second half, and 14 ties as neither team could pull away from the other. Salem will return to roundball action on Thursday when they welcome WVU-Parkersburg to the T. Edward Davis Gym for a 6:00 PM matchup.
