Salem, WV - Salem International University announced Tuesday that it has entered into a membership agreement to join the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) on July 1, 2013. "The G-MAC is pleased to welcome Salem International to its membership," said G-MAC Commissioner Tom Daeger. "Chancellor William Brooks, President John Luotto and Athletic Director Keith Bullion illustrated a commitment to cultivating their athletic department and developing their programs within the mission of the institution and the framework of the G-MAC. We look forward to assisting the institution as it continues to map the future of their athletics program." "We devoutly thank the G-MAC for this privilege and believing with us that a University need not be big to educate, compete, and serve," said SIU President John Luotto. "These capabilities are found in the gifts of community and openness and resolve of the heart." The Fighting Tigers will join Alderson-Broaddus College, Davis & Elkins College, and Ohio Valley who have also announced their membership to the G-MAC for the Fall of 2013. Current membership of the G-MAC consist of Cedarville University, Central State University, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Trevecca Nazarene University, Urbana University, Ursuline College, University of Virginia's College at Wise, and provisional member Georgetown College (NAIA). "It is with great pleasure and anticipation that we are entering into the G-MAC," said SIU Athletic Director Keith Bullion. "It allows us to solidify the relationships and establish rivalries with institutions that our student-athletes have had excellent experiences with over the period of our independent status. Our fans and alumni have been introduced to them over the past two seasons and now also get to enjoy the renewed rivalries and treasured memories with our neighboring institutions who will join us in this exciting endeavor." Salem International currently competes in 11 intercollegiate sports - men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, bowling, men's and women's water polo and men's and women's soccer. About The Great Midwest Athletic Conference The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), which formed in October of 2011, was approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee in February of 2012 as a NCAA Division II member conference.
