Salem, WV - One week removed from their 4-1 loss to Westminster, Salem International displayed it's offensive aggressiveness against Chowan, downing the Hawks, 4-2, in men's soccer action at Catalano Stadium Saturday.

Dwayne Phidd (St. Thomas, Jamaica) gave the Tigers (1-1-0) the early lead, recording his first goal of the season in the 15th minute. The captain found pay dirt in the form of a penalty kick, giving SIU an early 1-0 lead.

After Simeon Bratengeier (Swisttal, Germany) put Salem further ahead in the 25th minute to push the lead to 2-0. However, Aiala gave Chowan a ray of hope in the 40th minute to bring the deficit to 2-1 at the half.

After Smith tied the game at 2-2 in the second, Joe Calvillo (Norcross, GA) found a streaking Javier Reyes (Perris, CA) in the 70th minute to put the Tiger on top, 3-2. Hehmet Burak Dogan (Konstanz, Germany) sealed the victory in the 85th.

Salem returns to the pitch on September 11th when they travel to South Euclid, OH to take on the defending ECAC Division II Champion, Notre Dame College. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.

Game Notes

The game saw seven (7) Yellow Cards given out and a total of 30 fouls whistled. SIU accounted for five (5) cards while Chowan was handed two (2).
