Water Polo Set To Make Waves In 2012

Salem, WV - Salem International University's men's water polo team hopes to turn the page on a disappointing 2011 campaign and look toward a promising 2012 season in which the squad returns the bulk of the team while welcoming five new faces. Under the direction of second year coach Robert Bullion, the Tigers are hoping to make waves in the CWPA this year.

Returning captain, Ryan Wells (Glendora, CA) is coming off a stellar sophomore season. Wells led the Team in Goals, Assists and Steals, along with being named Team MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. The Team Rookie of the year, Borislav Kovacev (Becej, Serbia) will be a key player in the 2012 season. Kovacev was selected to the All-Tournament Team at Division II Championships as well as being named the OCT 3rd CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week.

Wesley Clark (O'Fallon, MO) will be another leader for the incoming freshmen this year. Clark is hoping to carry over from the success he had towards the end of last season. After being redshirted last year, Vincent Lucas (Mount Vernon, NY) and Michael Broome (St. Louis, MO) will join the team in competition this year.

The new faces on the squad this year include former 3rd Team Speedo Boys All-American, Kameron Schlegel (Mohnton,PA) and two-time All-Division selection from Berlin, Germany, Paul Strube. Kristopher Arnold (Chicago, IL), Jorge Flores (San Diego, CA), and Samuel Gonzalez (Chicago, IL) round out the 2012 recruiting class.

The Tigers will open the 2012 season September 1st and 2nd at the Navy Labor Day Open and continue on the road on September 8th and 9th at Penn State-Behrend, Mercyhurst, and Gannon. The squad will make their first appearance at the SIU Pool on September 21st and 22nd when they play host to Notre Dame College (OH) and Penn State-Behrend.
