Salem, WV - Turning the page in a promising new chapter of women's basketball, Salem International University has announced the hiring of Donita Adams as the new coach of the Lady Tigers. She will officially take over on September 1st, 2012.
"It is with pleasure and anticipation of continued progress that we announce today the hiring of Donita Adams as the Head Women's Basketball Coach." said SIU Athletic Director Keith Bullion. "Coach Adams brings an enthusiasm for the game and desire to work to build on the foundation that, together with the new and returning players, should make SIU an exciting place for women's basketball in 2012-13."
Adams graduated from Glenville State College in 2010 with a degree in Sports Management. In that same year, she earned the title of West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Player of the Year and named to the WVIAC First Team All-Tournament squad. She ended her year as the #2 scorer in NCAA Division II. She has made it to the final cut for the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA and been a candidate to play professional basketball abroad.
Before making her way to Glenville, Adams spent the 2007, 2008, and 2009 seasons as the head coach at Damascus High School in Maryland. In that time, she guided her teams to an overall record of 36-12 with several post-season appearances.
"I'm honored to be named Salem international University Women's Head Basketball Coach." said Coach Adams. "I'm also looking forward to the great opportunities that are in stored for this program and can't wait to meet the ladies so we can prepare for the upcoming season."
